Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

We understand the need to for students to have cellphones on them for safety concerns as they travel to and from school but as we get back to "normal" we ask that students who have cell phones turn off their device as they enter the school building.

Students are permitted to bring the following electronic items to school. These potentially expensive items MUST remain turned off and out of sight until the student leaves the building. Cell phones and electric devices can be very expensive, we are not requiring students to bring these items to school, and the student assumes the responsibility for safeguarding their belongings. The school is not responsible for any cell phone or electronic device brought to school. As always, students should go to an administrative office to call home, and parents can call the main office to get in contact with their child. At no time should a student use their cell phone during the school day without permission from the administration.

1. Cell phones and portable music and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during the school day on school premises. School premises includes indoor areas (classrooms, hallways, stairways, gymnasium, bathrooms, cafeteria and auditorium), and outdoor areas , (school yard, courtyard, school steps and entryways).

2. Computing devices may not be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination, except where such use has been explicitly authorized by the school or is contained in an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Accommodation Plan.

3. Cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.

Students who use cell phones, computing devices and/or portable music and entertainment systems in violation of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor’s Regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“IAUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.

In addition to Discipline code responses, school policy will dictate the following:

  • The first violation of the school policy/Chancellor’s Regulations will result in a confiscation of the phone, a warning, and return of the phone/device at the end of the school day.

  • The second violation of the school policy/Chancellor’s Regulation will result in confiscation of the device, a phone call home, and return of the phone at the end of the school day.

  • The third violation will result in confiscation of the device, and parent must retrieve the device during school hours.

  • Any further violations will result in confiscation of the phone, parent retrieval and a written contract signed by the student, school administration, and parent.

If you have any questions or concerns about the school policy, please feel free to contact the school.
